At Networked Inc, we have a very simple definition of what networking is:
Meet. Understand. Connect.
- Meet – Pretty simple really. If you are not meeting people, you can’t network.
- Understand – If you both don’t take the time to understand what one another does and how you can be of assistance, networking can’t happen.
- Connect – This normally says Connect 3.0:
- Connect people to the resources they need.
- Connect in a manner where you are open to and interested in sharing with others.
- Realize that we are all connected and it is because of this that networking truly works.
What’s your definition of networking?
Terry, I agree! I hear people say that they don’t like networking. It is always because they have been victim of one -sided sales pitches cloaked as “networking.” I define networking by having a genuine interest in people. I listen to what they are saying (or typing) and seek ways that I can add value. In other words, it’s building relationships. Congratulations on the blog!
Thanks Karen-
My networking mantra: Be interested prior to being interesting. My personal favorite quotation: “I have never learned anything new with my mouth open”.
Have a great day!
