Hail to the Chief!

Are you excited about President Obama? Are you one of the ones that are clinging to their wallet? Are you just happy that we are Bush free?

Whatever your views on the topic, today is a historic day. The good Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have turned 80 last week. The year President elect Obama became President elect Obama marked the 40 year anniversary of Dr. King’s untimely death. For years I have wondered what our lives would be like had that not happened.

I know over a billion people around the world are excited about today. There is a lot of hope surrounding this Presidency. More so than I remember in recent terms. Is it because we all believe that together, Yes we can?I believe that. in fact, I started Motor City Connect on the belief that together we will accomplish far more.

I can assure Dr. King will be watching a ginormous smile on his face. Will you?

I am encouraging conversations about the events of today, BUT I want us to consider that Politics IS a polarizing topic that will put people at odds. Remember, it’s the views with which we are at odds, NOT THE PEOPLE. Be respectful. Always.

I am excited! Whatever your political leanings, we are eyewitnesses to an historic event. My niece’s mom took her to DC to be part of the celebration. My brother kept his son home today so they could watch the Inauguration today. My older relatives are filled with pride and hope, a day they never believed they would see in their lifetime has arrived. Excited? My heart is filled with pride and I am proud to be an American.
