It’s that time of year again. You know the time…when one year ends and another one seamlessly begins. And just like last year, I’m going to present the Beanies Awards. What are the Beanies you ask? Really? You have to ASK?
Well, they’re my now annual awards that I present for the most impactful Facebook moments or movements of the year. If you’re overly curious (or exceedingly bored) you can check out The 2012 Beanies Here.

Best use of your position to get people to go to the movie with you: And the winner is: Stephen Clark!!! Stephen’s “go see Anchorman 2 with an Anchor Man” was brilliant. I loved it and I certainly hope those who made it enjoyed a cocktail (or 3), the company and of course, the movie!
Best Goading Me Into Something I may or may not want to do: This award goes to Dave Phillips and ALL of his efforts to get me and others to check out the XICW “Best in Detroit” event on January 18. Near as I can tell it’s like the WWE without all of that boring World stuff.
Best Online Relocation: This guy moved from the lovely city of Detroit to becoming a virtual nomad in India for the next six months (he’s 60 days in). Additionally, he is the first ever 2 time Beanies Winner and it’s Keith Zendler. Way to go Keith. Keep sharing those awesome photos and making a REAL difference!!
Best Leveling Up of a Cause: It’s little secret that I’ve long been a fan of Menachem Kneispeck and the wonderful work he and his team have been doing at Operation: Kid Equip, but this year they REALLY moved the needle. They did so by taking Michigan Friends of Education to a dream level so that students could get books for FREE (really, families can order books and they have to pay for is Shipping and Handling…check it out and share it).
Best Freshman Floor Mate Making a Difference: I was listening to morning radio and they were doing their “breaking and entering” thing for Christmas. The story was so touching about a young girl whose parents were told by the Dr.s that there was nothing more that could be done to save her. She had but one wish…to meet Selena Gomez. The “radio station” pulled it off and the young lady did. Later that day I learned that it was Steve York and the Charity, Angels of Hope who actually made the magic happen. Well done good people!
Best New Startup in the Shameless Self Promotion Category: Shockingly, I’m voting for the company that we have been so busy launching. We keep getting closer. It’s going to be super fun. In related news, if you know anyone who will be leasing a Chrysler or GM vehicle in January or February, they should talk to me. Click Click Car will be doing a soft launch and I will be doing A LOT of user experience testing.
Best Looking Blushing Bride: I am way biased, of course, but just look at this picture. Look at it. Look at it!!! I believe the saying is “Bean out kicked his coverage on this one”. Smoking hot wife I got here 😉
Best former mentor who will be a future mentor: Frank Agin taught me how to run a network way back in the 90’s when I still lived in Columbus. Since that time he’s really grown his business AND written a bunch of good books. I’m gonna be more like Frank in 2014!
Best use of Facebook for keeping up with #little Babies: This one is a bit obvious. It was so cool to watch Nikki Little and her husband’s pregnancy, delivery and growing of their #Little Babies (see what she did there) as they had twins this year. It really was one of my favorite Facebook trends. Congrats you two (or should I say four)?
